It’s the ‘Love’ Month – But do you Love Your Work?

February 14 is all about love, it seems. Those of us lucky to have a special person, or special people, in our lives may be happy to celebrate today.

But what about your work? Are you doing something everyday that you love? Are you excited to get out of bed in the morning and start work? Or do you get up with a groan at the thought of another stressful/boring work day?

It’s said that work is not actually ‘work’ if you love what you do. Makes sense, no? It’s more likely you’ll succeed at any business you try IF you have a true passion for it. (OK, you might still fail – just think of all the struggling writers, actors, or musicians that absolutely love their work but just can’t catch that lucky break!) Sadly, we must admit that there are no guarantees, but doing something you love will always beat doing something you hate, or even something that bores you silly. And chances are reasonably good that you’ll find success if you pursue your passion! Think of the passionate baker who starts selling their cakes and goodies from home and then attracts such a following that they have to move into larger space, or expand their enterprise in other ways. What of the person who loves interior design? They may start by offering to make over friends’ homes and then branch out to a wider clientele.

Thinking of opening your own business but don’t know where to start, or even what kind of business you’re likely to succeed at? First think what your passion is. What do you truly love doing most? Then see what opportunities there may be in that field. If you’re passionate about what you do, you’re arguably 50% there!

Already have a business up and running? Love what you’re doing but running into roadblocks? Remember what got you interested in this field in the first place. Now think about other people who may share your passion. What are their needs? What problems may they be facing?  Identify the problems and then think how you can offer solutions. Also, bear in mind that these like-minded people are your target audience  – direct your marketing to them first. Create a website, if you don’t already have one,  and create or share content that will appeal to this audience. Creating or sharing quality content makes you seem credible and will get you a following of like-minded people – it can be your most effective marketing tool. Start a discussion on social media to get your brand even more recognized.

Meanwhile, indulge in some chocolate, wine and flowers and embrace the season of love!
